Monday night’s meeting was one of the most productive meetings the club has ever held if not the most productive. I have outlined the key points and issues to be ready to discuss at the next meeting in December.
Items Decided on at this meeting
- We unanimously decided to begin holding monthly general meetings each and every month throughout the year. The next meeting will be held Monday December 10, 2007. The location of that meeting has yet to be officially determined (We are going to try and meet in the side room at Patricia’s if its available)
- We decided to look into participating in the Fitness Challenge. We want to participate in this to gain exposure for the club and to show how bicycling is great exercise. Travis is tracking down the information about the Fitness Challenge and will report his finding to the club at the December meeting.
- We started an open discussion about creating the club mission statement. We discussed different ideas of what we want the club to focus on such as:
- Improve public awareness
- Address public bicycle safety concerns
- Mountain bike trail advocacy
- Fun and Friendship
- We decided to roll over the existing membership dues and not charge dues this year since very little money from the fund was spent this year.
- Several up coming rides as long as the weather cooperates and an all weather indoor trainer ride:
- Weekly Katy Trail Ride. Starting this Sunday everyone will meet at the Katy Depot every Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to ride the Katy Trail. All abilities welcome. Some of us will be riding 2+ hours, but you are welcome to ride as long as you want.
- Night Ride on December 2nd. We will meet at 4:00 p.m. at the Katy Depot and ride to Green Ridge and Back. Headlight and red taillight will be required.
- Bike Shop Trainer Rides. Starting the Thursday after Thanksgiving, Ebby will hold 1 hour indoor trainer rides every Thursday starting at 6:00 p.m.
- We decided to have PRBC Race Team uniforms that include local sponsors and separate PRBC club apparel that only has the club logo. Ebby is obtaining a fit kit to determine sizes and will bring that to the December meeting. Ebby is also getting ordering minimums, reorder, color, and item information to present at the December meeting.
Items on the December 10th Meeting Agenda
- Nominate and elect officers for 2008
- Vote on new PRBC Club and Race Team apparel
- Travis will present his findings on participating in the Fitness Challenge
- Create a rough draft of the official Mission Statement
- Present any new business / Open discussions
The next Pearl River Bicycle Club Meeting will be held on December 10th. We are going to try and reserve the meeting room at Patricia’s Mexican Restaurant.
I encourage everyone to come to the meetings and see what we are all about. We are turning a new leaf with the club and moving forward.
We have heard concerns that the club as a whole had become totally directed by the Sedalia Historic District Criterium Race. We have addressed those concerns and want to make the club welcoming and accessible to all those interested in bicycling of all types. The Sedalia Historic District Criterium and Otterville Road Races will still be important in the year to come but they will be handled by a committee or team of club members as an addition to the club.
We are planning several great activities and rides for the coming year such as a club movie night, and a mountain biking introduction and picnic. These are just two of the ideas brought up tonight.
If you would like more information about the Pearl River Bicycle Club you can contact Ebby or Norm at ProVelo or contact me via the Contact Page on this site.
