breaking away Bothwell Lodge Mountain Bike Trail Project Update

Matt, TJ, and I met with Jill White the land manager at the Bothwell Lodge Missouri State Historic Site hiked the proposed new mountain bike trail sections with us yesterday.  Jill was very pleased with what Matt and TJ had marked.  She gave us her approval and we are now only waiting on the green light from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to review the layout.  We hope to be able to start actually cutting trail in January, maybe sooner.

Columbia is Making Traffic Signals Bike Friendly

Traffic Signals have always been a pain for cyclists.  Traffic signals are triggered by a magnetic field created just above the road surface (not weight like many believe).  When a vehicle stops at the signal, the steal in the frame and body change the magnetic field which signals the traffic  control box that there is a vehicle waiting.  Bicycles made of aluminum and carbon fiber have fewer and fewer magnetic parts that can actually trip the light sensors.  Columbia Missouri has started a project to recalibrate traffic signals to detect bicycles better.  They are also marking exactly where cyclists should stop at the traffic light to most effectively signal the light.  Read more on this story: Columbia Making Traffic Signals Bike-Friendly
