The Cyclocross National Championships in Kansas City, Kansas were awesome. I must admit something that I’m not proud of…this was the first cyclocross race I had ever been to. There I said it. It was one of the most fun experiences I have had since getting into bicycle racing a few years ago.
Matt, TJ, Benji, and I made the trip up there amidst the snow covered highways and cold weather to see the action. We were not disappointed. In fact we are already making plans to be ready to race cyclocross next season
Race Details:
Katie Compton ran away with the women’s elite race making her a 4 time national cyclocross champion. Rachel Lloyd finished 2nd. Georgia Gould was another favorite for the win and she finish 3rd.
The racing in the elite men’s race was fierce with Jonathan Page and Tim Johnson battling it out over several laps. Eventually Page had a mechanical allowing Johnson to open up a gap that Page was not able to make up. Todd Wells finished 3rd. Barry Wicks finished 4th.
Ryan Trabon, who was a favorite for the win and the defending national champ, was involved in an early wreck and couldn’t continue. A rider well back in the field couldn’t hold his line and broke through the barrier tape on a section of the course that doubled back on itself and hit Trabon head on, knocking him unconscious.
