Last night was the December meeting of the Pearl River Bicycle Club. Attendance was light but it was another productive meeting. We are really starting to make headway and are moving the club forward like we had wanted to do the first time around.
Fitness Challenge
Travis reported to the club that he had attended the Fitness Challenge planning meeting. They had not finalized many of the details but it was enough to give us something to work with.
The PRBC will be involved by giving a little presentation or speaking at the fitness challenge kick off event in January. Travis plans on making himself available to guide rides for those that want to include cycling in their challenge.
We will be putting together a flyer for the club and the fitness challenge that will be available at the various other gyms and events associated with the fitness challenge.
Official Logo
We voted to make the logo that Norm had drawn and Travis had used on the Kate Trail Experience shirts the official logo. Matt has a copy of the line drawing and will be adding color to the logo.
The logo will be on the web site BikeSedalia.org, which is the official PRBC web site. The logo will also be used on any club apparel or letterhead.
Elected New Officers For 2008
We nominated and voted for new officers. Effective immediately:
- Travis DeMoss ————- President
- Bradly Fletchall (Me) — Vice President
- Milene Mittelhouser —- Treasurer
Meetings and Procedures
To keep the club more organized and moving forward we decided on a few issues that will hopefully improve the meetings and keep everyone better informed.
- The treasurer will give financial report at each meeting.
- Meetings will be held on the second Monday of each month all year long.
Newsletter
We also decided that a paper news letter is needed to make sure that the club members that do not have an e-mail address or Internet access would be able to stay up to date with club news.
Since I have been posting the meeting minutes on my here,I volunteered to produce the printed newsletter as well.
The printed newsletter will be available at ProVelo or contact me and I will make sure one gets to you.
Topics Tabled for Further Discussion or Planning
- We will be doing a spring road ride with several distance options all starting and ending at the same location. The rough plan is to have a 35 mile, a 62 mile (metric century), and a 100 mile ride. Further details are yet to be determined
- Planning the March picnic and ride
- News Paper Ad to announce the March picnic and ride
- Finalizing the club mission statement. Travis and I had independently from each other written different mission statements. The club members thought we should combine the ideas in both to create a single mission statement. Travis and I will work on that before the next meeting.
- Katy Trail Clean Up
- Consider adopting a section of the trail so we get a sign on the trail
- Donate a bench for the Katy Trail and/or the Radiant Trail at Bothwell Lodge
- Possible February Polar Bear all weather ride
- What bicycle advocacy issues do we want to try and work on? Possibilities include:
- Katy Trail Clean Up/Adopt a section of trail
- Pedestrian and Bicycle Greenway down 16th St. from Limit Ave. West to State Fair Community College
- Bicycle lane down 16th St. from Limit Ave. East to Marshall Ave.
- Bicycle Route and/or Share The Road Signs.
- Bicycle lane down Thompson Blvd from 16th St. to Broadway
- Traffic Light Sensor Calibration
- Give away helmets to kids
January Meeting Agenda
The January meeting will be held on January 14th (second Monday of the month) in the basement of the Union Savings Bank West Drive-In between Wendy’s and Dairy Queen. There are currently two items that will be on the agenda currently.
- Milene will report on the current club financial standing and on membership information.
- Travis will report on getting the club in the yearly clubs and organizations guide that is in the paper every year.

You could strive to have the bike lane that connects the katy trail fixed.
It encourages people to ride on the wrong way of the street and goes against any and all federal standards for bike lanes.
If they do not want to remove parking in order to put in a correct bike lane then they should remove it and put in sharrows.

Thanks for commenting. I have always hated that bike lane part of the Katy in Sedalia. I always ignore the lane and ride like you are supposed to. It is a pain though and totally sends the wrong message. Of course a lot of people around here think you are supposed to ride on the sidewalk.
