David Zabriskie is the Greatest American Cyclist Ever for one reason and one reason alone.
You might think it is for his amazing ability to time trial. You might also say it is for his continued hard work and consistent performance. You could also say it is for his colorful and hilarious interviews.
I would say you are all wrong. The reason Dave Zabriskie is the greatest American cyclist is the mustache he was sporting at the Tour de Georgia. That is second only to Brad Huff’s mullet.
I wonder if they tested that thing in the wind tunnel. I bet it added at least a few seconds to his time trial.
I just hope this catches on. How cool would it be to see the entire peloton sporting massive 70s mustaches

I have a fairly good zabriskie story.
In the 2006 Tour de France, I watched the stage where Landis cracked near the top of the hors categorie Col du Glandon.
It was hot and this was a huge climb and the riders were strung out all over the road.
If they could just survive the last kilometre at 10% maybe it would be OK …
Anyway, as he rode by through thick crowds he kept yelling under his breath in a high voice “push-me, push me”
And we all did ….
There can be penalties if this is seen by the officials but the crowd was packed … whereas some of the stragglers pushed often get seen by officials and get angry when pushed.

@Will - You know that doesn’t surprise me at all. I bet all sorts of things like that go on that no one ever hears about.
I just want to see it in person. I’ll make it to Europe someday.
