Its been a week now since the races were held. Things didn’t go exactly as I had planned but we are looking on to next year.
I don’t want to be all doom and gloom but our numbers were down a little bit this year for some reason and we spent more money putting the races on this year. We had 4 officials instead of 3 for the criterium and we had 5 officials instead of 3 for the road race. USACycling raised the mileage rate for officials this year too.
The good news is…this is the first time in the 4 years the race has been held that we finished with more money than we started with. We came out ahead with all of the proceeds going to the Pearl River Bicycle Club. It wasn’t much money but its a start, and that is very exciting good news for us.
The Pearl River Bicycle Club in Sedalia has agreed to hold the proceeds form this years race aside to help fund next years races. The club is going to be taking over the races so we can continue to grow the event and attract more riders and spectators.
This would not have been possible at all without all the extra support we had this year from, Lamm Technical Resources, Doty’s Moving and Storage, Herman Lumber of Sedalia, Hotel Bothwell, Preuitt Insurance, Sword’s Family Pharmacy, SDDI, CBCD, Otterville Parks and Recreation, Union Savings Bank, Sedalia Surgical Services, Bacon’s Smokehouse BBQ, Quinn’s World Wide Wings and Things, 5th Street Brew Pub, and the City of Sedalia (especially John Simmons). I know I’ve left some people out and I cannot thank you enough and I apologize if I’ve missed naming you here. We simply couldn’t do it without your support.
We also received outstanding coverage from the local media. Here are the links to the news articles and a video interview with me bellow:

So things didn’t go exactly as I had planned….It was better. Putting on these events is a lot more work than you might think and it takes an army of volunteers to make it happen.
I also want to thank all the riders that came out and raced. It is also nice to see all the familiar faces of those who come back every year. Thank you for bringing your friends and telling your cycling teams and clubs about our events. It really does make a huge difference and will help keep the races alive.
Next year the events will be bigger and better than ever with even more community support. We learn new things every year that helps us improve on what we had the year before. The 5th Annual Sedalia Historic Disctrict Criterium and Otterville Road Race will be better than ever.
