Here are the results for the 3rd annual Sedalia Historic District Twilight Criterium. Jensen, Tilford, and Smith lapped the field with an early breakaway in the Men’s 1/2/3 race much like what we saw last year from the Trek team. There was a large crash early on that downed 10+ riders with at least 9 taking free laps after needed repairs.
There was also a crash in the Men’s 4/5 that involved a local guy Matt Moulton. The crash happened in turn 4 with 6 laps remaining in the race. Matt was a local hopeful but he simply got tangled with another rider. I spoke with Matt after the race and he said that he was holding his line in the turn and the rider just ahead of him cut across his path and cliped his front wheel. When he went down he collected another rider. Only scrapes and bruses for all but Matt’s bike faired much worse. He had it ready to race on Sunday though. Other local riders in the Men’s 4/5 included TJ McNamara, Benji Bockting, Bobby Snow, and Dalton Luper.
The Junior race went pretty well for the Pro-Velo riders. Dalton Luper and Brad Durian both making a good showing. The big surprise in the junior event was the number of young riders that came to the race. The past 2 years no juniors youngr than 14 or 15 had raced. This year we had at least 5 rider under the age of 13. Next year we will break the junior race up by age so it will even things out for the younger riders.
