After a while it is inevitable that you will end up with an old bike and various used bike
parts that just take up space and collect dust. Dry rotted tires and spider webs are now the most noticeable features. So what do you do with that old bike?
Donate it
There are several organizations that accept bicycles for various good causes. Here are just a few.
- Pedals for Progress takes your unwanted bike and gives it to people that need them in developing countries. They also donate sewing machines and promote bicycle repair businesses in those areas maintaining the donated bikes and to improve the economies in their area.
- Trips for Kids is an outreach organization that allows kids to earn bikes and get job training. They have a program for taking inner city kids on bike rides, as well as a bicycle recycling program.
- Recycle-A-Bicycle is a New York City youth training and environmental education program that promotes everyday bike use. They also teach bicycle mechanics and accept used bicycle donations.
Of course you could always chop it up and make it into a tall bike.
